Rheem RTE 7 Electric 2.5 GPM
This review is from: Rheem RTE 7 Electric Tankless Water Heater, 2.5 GPM (Tools & Home Improvement)
We live in PA and our cold water is COLD in the winter.
The shower in our main bathroom is at the furthest point from our hot water tank but closest to where our cold water supply enters the house. In order to get a good hot shower, especially in winter, we use almost straight hot water and even our 80 gallon tank doesn’t hold up too long.
I installed this tankless heater on the COLD WATER side of the shower.
The idea being simply to raise the temp of the incoming cold water from 40 degrees to something closer to “room temperature” before sending it to the shower faucet.
This Rheem RTE7 allows some temperature adjustment right on the unit so I was able to create roughly 70 degree cold water which means we don’t need nearly as much “hot” water from the other side of the house to get a really hot shower.
The main goal was to get a hotter shower … mission accomplished!
And I’m pretty sure it will save me money overall since I’m only heating a small amount of cold water right at the shower while greatly reducing the amount of hot water we suck out of our hot water tank with every shower.
The only downside to this heater is, regardless of what the Rheem charts show, it would NEVER flow 2.5 gallons per minute. I’d guess closer to 1.5 gpm so just keep that in mind.

The RTE 7 is quality, and yes it does work, but not for more than a single sink.
I installed one for the guest house shower. It delivers warm water, but nothing close to hot. Can guests actually take a shower with the RTE 7 Eskimos maybe, but for normal humans, no way.
Did I supply the max amps? Yes, 30 amps, 2 phase, 10 gauge wire.
What was the beginning water temperature?
My water is delivered at 72 degrees before it hits the RTE 7. So there should be no problem with a 30 degree temp gain.
However, the shower water comes out at around 85 – 90 degrees. Too cold.
